Field notes

What it is like to shoot in Cape Town

We covered an impact summit at the CTICC with a parallel executive interview studio at the V&A Waterfront, plus drone B-roll over Table Mountain at golden hour. The Cape light from February to April is the reason production schedules cluster around that window.

Our regular Cape Town workflow covers fintech, energy, and impact. We crew with a local production assistant, a dedicated sound recordist, and a lighting team that knows the venues — including Cape Town International Convention Centre — well enough to walk in cold and still finish on time.

Cape Town expertise

Filming at Cape Town's Premier Corporate Venues

Cape Town B2B production concentrates around three venues: CTICC in the Foreshore for finance and pharma KOL conferences, The Lookout at V&A Waterfront for executive interview and KOL fireside formats, and Century City Conference Centre in Milnerton for industrial trade. City of Cape Town permits run 10 working days; Table Mountain National Park B-roll requires SANParks clearance separately.

1. Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC)

Foreshore

CTICC's Auditorium 1 seats 1,500 with a 12m proscenium ceiling and broadcast-grade rigging on a 4m grid. CTICC 2 adds Hall 2 with 11m clear ceiling and 4,000-seat banquet capacity. We use it for Mining Indaba (the flagship African mining congress), pharma KOL conferences, and finance plenaries. Acoustic treatment is professional (RT60 ~1.0s). Load-in via the Heerengracht Street service entry takes 4 artics with 24-hour access. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The integrated 4K SDI tie-ins make multicam redundancy straightforward. Table Mountain B-roll plates from the venue's south-facing terrace are signature Cape Town cutaways.

2. The Lookout at V&A Waterfront

V&A Waterfront

The Lookout gives a 6m ceiling with full panoramic glazing on three sides overlooking the working harbour and Table Mountain. We use it for finance KOL fireside content and pharma HCP-facing executive interviews where the venue itself is a brand asset. Acoustically the room is bright (RT60 ~1.0s on hardwood and glass) and we lay sound blankets behind camera. The glass walls create polarization challenges at golden hour, so we shoot a 1/4 CTO key and meter for the mountain and harbour highlights, not the talent. Load-in via the V&A service entry is constrained: 3.2m freight elevator and 24-hour notice. Power is 3-phase 125A.

3. Century City Conference Centre

Century City / Milnerton

Century City gives 8m clear ceiling in the Ballroom with broadcast-grade rigging on a 3m grid and 1,000-seat banquet capacity. We use it for industrial trade and large-format pharma HCP plenaries where CTICC is at capacity. Acoustically the ballroom is well-treated (RT60 ~1.0s). Load-in via the Century Boulevard service entry takes 4 artics with 24-hour access. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The venue is 15km north of central Cape Town in Milnerton — crew accommodation should be at Century City rather than commuting from City Bowl. The Cape Town stadium B-roll plate from the venue's south face works for sports-adjacent deliverables.

Cape Town's pharma KOL work increasingly serves the broader SADC region; we deliver English-language masters with optional isiXhosa, Afrikaans, and Portuguese (for Mozambique distribution) subtitle tracks locked to time-code at rough-cut.

Cape Town's Video Production Market

Cape Town is South Africa's creative capital and one of the world's most sought-after filming destinations, with stunning natural backdrops, world-class production infrastructure, and a thriving tech ecosystem centred around the CBD and Century City. The city hosts major conferences at the CTICC and attracts international brands for shoots year-round. For B2B companies in tech, wine and agriculture, financial services, and tourism, professional video content is essential for standing out in this visually spectacular market.

Why Professional Video Delivers ROI

South African B2B audiences are highly engaged with video — LinkedIn South Africa reports 4x higher engagement on video posts versus static content. For Cape Town's tech, agriculture, and financial services sectors, a polished corporate film serves investor relations, conference recaps, LinkedIn campaigns, and recruitment content. Cape Town's cinematic backdrops add production value that elevates any brand film above the competition. We deliver in every format, ensuring your budget works across channels.

Equipment & Crew

Our Cape Town crews shoot on Sony FX6 and RED Komodo cinema cameras with Zeiss CP.3 and Sony G Master lenses. We carry Aputure 600d lighting, DJI RS3 Pro stabilisers, Sennheiser wireless audio, and DJI Mavic 3 Pro drones for aerial work. Every setup is designed for Cape Town's exceptional natural light and diverse environments — from Table Mountain backdrops to modern conference centres and waterfront offices.

Coverage Area

Our crew is based in Cape Town but we cover all of the Western Cape — Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek — and the rest of South Africa including Johannesburg, Durban, and Pretoria. Multi-city African shoots spanning Nairobi, Lagos, and Accra are coordinated from our Cape Town hub, giving you one point of contact, consistent quality, and a single invoice.
