Field notes

What it is like to shoot in Helsinki

We shot a Slush keynote recap inside Messukeskus, then ran a series of CEO interviews at a Kallio loft studio. Working in Helsinki in late autumn taught us a lot about how to plan around four hours of usable daylight.

Our regular Helsinki workflow covers gaming, cleantech, and SaaS. We crew with a local production assistant, a dedicated sound recordist, and a lighting team that knows the venues — including Messukeskus — well enough to walk in cold and still finish on time.

Helsinki expertise

Filming at Helsinki's Premier Corporate Venues

Helsinki B2B production concentrates around three venues: Messukeskus in Pasila for trade-show and conference scale, Finlandia Hall at Töölönlahti for finance and pharma KOL formats, and Wanha Satama at Katajanokka for industrial-aesthetic launch events. Helsingin kaupunki permits run 10 working days; Suomenlinna and other UNESCO sites require separate Senate Properties coordination.

1. Messukeskus Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre

Pasila

Messukeskus's Hall 7 gives 11m clear ceiling with 6m grid rigging and 3-phase 400A per position. The Siipi conference centre adds a 9m proscenium auditorium with broadcast-grade acoustic treatment (RT60 ~1.0s). We use it for Slush, FinnBuild, and pharma KOL congresses (multiple Nordic oncology and cardiology-aligned events). Acoustically the open halls run RT60 ~2.6s. Load-in via the Messuaukio service entry takes 6 artics with 24-hour access. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The integrated 4K SDI infrastructure ties into the gallery. Pasila rail-adjacent location simplifies crew transit at 5 minutes from Helsinki Central.

2. Finlandia Hall

Töölö / Töölönlahti

Finlandia Hall (Alvar Aalto's 1971 masterwork) gives a 7m proscenium ceiling in the Main Auditorium with broadcast-grade rigging and 1,700-seat capacity. We use it for finance plenaries (multiple Bank of Finland-adjacent events), pharma KOL congresses, and EU policy work. Acoustic treatment is professional (RT60 ~1.0s) and the Aalto interior is itself a B-roll subject — we shoot architecture plates at 35mm full-frame and capture executive intros against the venue's signature Carrara marble walls. Load-in via the Mannerheimintie service entry is constrained: 3.5m dock height and listed-building restrictions on any wall or floor penetration. Power is 3-phase 200A per position. Currently undergoing renovation through 2026 — we coordinate scheduling against the construction window.

3. Wanha Satama

Katajanokka

Wanha Satama (the old harbour warehouse) gives a 7m clear ceiling under timber trusses with daylight from the south-facing windows. We use it for fintech and SaaS launch keynotes where the industrial-historic aesthetic is dominant. Acoustically the space is challenging (RT60 ~2.6s on timber and brick) and we treat the talent area with full drape and floor-mounted bass traps. Load-in via the Pikku Satamakatu dock takes 2 artics. Power is 3-phase 200A on event-day shore connection. The Helsinki harbour B-roll plate from the venue's north face gives a signature cutaway — Skywheel and Allas Sea Pool at golden hour for executive intros.

Finnish pharma KOL deliverables for Fimea-aligned audiences need Finnish voiceover with name-card supers in standard Finnish; Swedish-language variant is optional but required for distribution to the Finland Swedish-speaking minority audience and ensures Åland regulatory compliance.

Helsinki's Video Production Market

Helsinki is the capital of Finland and a global leader in gaming, cleantech, health tech, and design-driven innovation. Home to companies like Nokia, Supercell, and Wolt, the city punches far above its weight in tech output per capita. From the modern offices of Ruoholahti to the innovation campus of Keilaniemi, B2B brands in gaming, telecoms, health tech, and forest industry compete for attention in a market that values design, sustainability, and engineering excellence. Slush — the world's leading startup event — calls Helsinki home, making professional video content essential for brands targeting the Finnish and Nordic market.

Why Professional Video Delivers ROI

Finnish B2B audiences value substance over flash — and well-produced video delivers both. LinkedIn Finland reports 4x higher engagement on video posts versus static content. For Helsinki's tech, health, and industrial sectors, a polished corporate film serves Slush presentations, investor decks, LinkedIn campaigns, and client-facing communications. We deliver in every format, ensuring your production budget works across Nordic and international channels.

Equipment & Crew

Our Helsinki crews shoot on Sony FX6 and RED Komodo cinema cameras with Zeiss CP.3 and Sony G Master lenses. We carry Aputure 600d lighting, DJI RS3 Pro stabilisers, Sennheiser wireless audio, and DJI Mavic 3 Pro drones for aerial work. Every setup is designed for Finnish conditions — handling the extremes of Nordic light from midnight sun to dark winter with professional lighting rigs and light-shaping tools.

Coverage Area

Our crew is based in Helsinki but we cover all of Finland — Tampere, Turku, Oulu, and Espoo. Multi-city Nordic shoots spanning Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo are coordinated from our Helsinki hub, giving you one point of contact, consistent quality, and a single invoice.
