Field notes

What it is like to shoot in Kuala Lumpur

We shot a Petronas leadership interview series with the Twin Towers in the frame, then covered a halal-economy summit at KLCC. The October-March monsoon window has taught us a great deal about waterproofing a hero shot.

Our regular Kuala Lumpur workflow covers consumer health and Islamic finance. We crew with a local production assistant, a dedicated sound recordist, and a lighting team that knows the venues — including Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre — well enough to walk in cold and still finish on time.

Kuala Lumpur expertise

Filming at Kuala Lumpur's Premier Corporate Venues

Kuala Lumpur B2B production concentrates around three venues: KL Convention Centre in the city centre for finance and pharma KOL conferences, MITEC in Jalan Sultan Ismail Putra for larger industrial trade work, and Sunway Resort Hotel ballrooms in Bandar Sunway for incentive and pharma HCP-facing formats. Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur permits run 10 working days; private property requires written consent only.

1. Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC)

Kuala Lumpur City Centre

KLCC's Plenary Hall gives a 14m ceiling with broadcast-grade rigging on a 4m grid and seats 3,000. We use it for finance, pharma KOL congresses (Asia-Pacific oncology and cardiology-aligned events), and ASEAN-policy plenaries. Acoustic treatment is professional (RT60 ~1.0s). Load-in via the Persiaran KLCC service entry takes 4 artics; the Petronas Twin Towers exterior B-roll plate from the venue plaza is a signature KL cutaway. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The integrated 4K SDI tie-ins make multicam redundancy straightforward. The Banquet Hall gives an additional 8m ceiling for HCP-facing breakout work — RT60 ~0.9s, full block-out drape.

2. Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC)

Jalan Sultan Ismail Putra / Kepong

MITEC's Hall 5 gives 11m clear ceiling with 6m grid rigging and 3-phase 400A — the largest trade-show floor in Malaysia. We use it for Defence Services Asia and industrial trade where KLCC is too small. Acoustically the halls run RT60 ~2.7s open. Load-in via the MITEC Boulevard runs to 8 artic bays. The venue is 8km north of central KL — crew accommodation in Bukit Aman or Kepong rather than commuting from Bukit Bintang. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. Hot/humid environment averages 85% RH indoors so lens acclimatization at every venue door is a daily kit-prep step.

3. Sunway Resort Hotel Grand Ballroom

Bandar Sunway / Subang Jaya

Sunway Resort's Grand Lagoon Ballroom gives a 7.8m ceiling with rigged points on a 3m grid and column-free 25m clear span. We use it primarily for pharma incentive summits and HCP advisory boards (Roche, Novartis APAC-aligned events have been recurring). Acoustically the ballroom is well-treated (RT60 ~0.9s) and runs clean DPA 4080s. Load-in via the Sunway Resort service road is constrained: 3.6m dock height and 7.5 tonnes per truck. Power is 3-phase 200A per ballroom. The venue is 18km south-west of central KL in Subang — crew transit during peak adds 40 minutes, so we always pre-stage kit the day before bump-in calls.

Malaysian pharma KOL content for NPRA-aligned audiences needs Bahasa Malaysia, English, and increasingly Chinese (Mandarin) voiceover passes; we lock all language tracks to time-code at the rough-cut stage to keep medical affairs sign-off on the original schedule.

Kuala Lumpur's Video Production Market

Kuala Lumpur is Southeast Asia's rising business hub, home to Petronas, major Islamic finance institutions, and a fast-growing tech ecosystem. From the iconic Petronas Twin Towers at KLCC to the modern offices of Bangsar South, B2B brands in energy, fintech, halal industries, and shared services compete for attention in one of ASEAN's most dynamic markets. The city's KL Convention Centre hosts major regional conferences and the government's push for digital transformation makes professional video content essential for brands targeting the Malaysian and wider ASEAN market.

Why Professional Video Delivers ROI

Malaysian B2B audiences are highly responsive to video content — LinkedIn engagement in Malaysia is 3x higher for video posts compared to static content. For KL's energy, finance, and technology sectors, a well-produced corporate film serves investor decks, conference presentations, social media campaigns, and internal communications across Malaysia's multilingual market (Malay, English, Mandarin). We deliver in every format to maximise your production budget across channels.

Equipment & Crew

Our KL crews shoot on Sony FX6 and RED Komodo cinema cameras with Zeiss CP.3 and Sony G Master lenses. We carry Aputure 600d lighting, DJI RS3 Pro stabilisers, Sennheiser wireless audio, and DJI Mavic 3 Pro drones for aerial work. Every setup is designed for KL's conditions — from the climate-controlled lobbies of KLCC towers to outdoor shoots managing tropical light and humidity.

Coverage Area

Our crew is based in Kuala Lumpur but we cover all of Malaysia — Penang, Johor Bahru, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, and beyond. Multi-city ASEAN shoots spanning Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City are coordinated from our KL hub, giving you one point of contact, consistent quality, and a single invoice.
