Field notes

What it is like to shoot in Nairobi

We filmed a mobile-money customer journey across Westlands and three rural M-Pesa agent locations in a single shoot day. Kenya's filming permits are practical when you work through the right local production partner and we do.

Our regular Nairobi workflow covers fintech, agritech, and impact. We crew with a local production assistant, a dedicated sound recordist, and a lighting team that knows the venues — including Kenyatta International Convention Centre — well enough to walk in cold and still finish on time.

Nairobi expertise

Filming at Nairobi's Premier Corporate Venues

Nairobi B2B production concentrates around three venues: KICC in the CBD for the workhorse policy and pharma KOL conferences, Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands for industrial trade, and Radisson Blu Nairobi Upper Hill for finance KOL fireside formats. Kenya Film Commission permits run 10 working days; security considerations affect crew load-in scheduling — daytime bump-in is standard.

1. Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC)

Central Business District

KICC's Plenary Hall seats 5,000 with a 14m proscenium ceiling and broadcast-grade rigging on a 4m grid. We use it for African Union-aligned policy work, pharma KOL congresses (multiple ECSA-HC and Africa Health-aligned events), and finance plenaries. Acoustic treatment is professional (RT60 ~1.1s). Load-in via the City Square service entry takes 3 artics with 24-hour access. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The integrated 4K SDI infrastructure ties into a venue-supplied control room. The KICC Tower B-roll plate from the venue rooftop gives a signature Nairobi cutaway at 35mm full-frame with the city skyline.

2. Sarit Expo Centre

Westlands

Sarit's Pavilion 1 gives 9m clear ceiling with 4m grid rigging and 3-phase 400A per position. We use it for industrial trade (Mining Business Africa, Africa Aerospace and Defence satellite events) and pharma KOL congresses. Acoustically the pavilion runs RT60 ~2.4s open and every KOL is hardwired DPA 4080. Load-in via the Westlands Road service entry takes 4 artics. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. Westlands traffic during peak (07:00–10:00 and 16:30–19:30) makes morning kit transit unreliable, so we always run early-morning bump-in starting 04:30.

3. Radisson Blu Nairobi Upper Hill

Upper Hill

Radisson Blu's Mara Ballroom gives a 6.5m ceiling with rigged points on a 3m grid and 600-seat banquet capacity. We use it for finance KOL fireside content (multiple Equity Group, NCBA-adjacent events) and pharma HCP advisory boards. Acoustically the ballroom is well-treated (RT60 ~0.9s) and runs clean DPA 6066s. Load-in via the Elgon Road service entry is constrained: freight elevator at 2.4m wide and 24-hour notice required. Power is 3-phase 125A per ballroom. The Upper Hill financial district sits above the CBD and traffic is consistently lighter than Westlands or the CBD itself, making it the default KOL fireside venue for finance medical affairs work.

Kenyan pharma KOL deliverables for PPB-aligned audiences need English-language masters; Swahili voiceover is increasingly common for HCP-facing content distributed across East Africa Community countries and we lock the Swahili pass to time-code at rough-cut.

Nairobi's Video Production Market

Nairobi is East Africa's tech and financial capital — home to the original mobile money revolution (M-Pesa), a thriving startup ecosystem known as Silicon Savannah, and the regional headquarters of the UN, World Bank, and major multinational corporations. From the glass towers of Upper Hill to the innovation hubs of Westlands, B2B brands in fintech, agriculture, telecoms, and development compete for attention in one of Africa's fastest-growing economies. KICC hosts major continental conferences, making professional video content essential for brands targeting Kenyan and wider East African markets.

Why Professional Video Delivers ROI

East African B2B audiences are among the most mobile-first in the world — video content drives significantly higher engagement across LinkedIn, YouTube, and local platforms. For Nairobi's fintech, telco, and NGO sectors, a polished corporate film serves investor decks, conference presentations, social media campaigns, and stakeholder communications. We deliver in every format — from vertical social cuts to 4K broadcast masters — ensuring your production budget works across East African and international channels.

Equipment & Crew

Our Nairobi crews shoot on Sony FX6 and RED Komodo cinema cameras with Zeiss CP.3 and Sony G Master lenses. We carry Aputure 600d lighting, DJI RS3 Pro stabilisers, Sennheiser wireless audio, and DJI Mavic 3 Pro drones for aerial work. Every setup is designed for Nairobi's equatorial conditions — managing the city's bright equatorial light, afternoon rain showers, and fast transitions between modern tech offices and outdoor locations.

Coverage Area

Our crew is based in Nairobi but we cover all of Kenya — Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and the Rift Valley. Multi-city East African shoots spanning Dar es Salaam, Kampala, Kigali, and Addis Ababa are coordinated from our Nairobi hub, giving you one point of contact, consistent quality, and a single invoice.
