Field notes

What it is like to shoot in San Francisco

We filmed an AI company customer journey across three SoMa offices in a single day, then covered Dreamforce week at Moscone. The fog rolling over Sutro Tower at dusk is a B-roll cliché that still works for product films.

Our regular San Francisco workflow covers SaaS, AI, and venture. We crew with a local production assistant, a dedicated sound recordist, and a lighting team that knows the venues — including Moscone Center — well enough to walk in cold and still finish on time.

San Francisco expertise

Filming at San Francisco's Premier Corporate Venues

San Francisco B2B production sits across three precincts: Moscone Center at SoMa for tech and pharma conference scale, a tier of SoMa and FiDi rooftop venues for SaaS and fintech KOL work, and Presidio plus Marin for retreat-format executive content. FilmSF permits run 5 working days for static interior; bay-front and bridge B-roll work requires NPS or Caltrans clearance separately.

1. Moscone Center

SoMa

Moscone's South Hall gives 11m clear ceiling with broadcast-grade rigging on a 4m grid; North and West halls scale similarly with the 2018 expansion adding the Esplanade Ballroom (6.7m ceiling, 50,000 sq ft, treated to RT60 ~1.1s). For Dreamforce, Salesforce-aligned KOL work and pharma congresses we build studios off the show floor with black duvateen on 5m uprights. Acoustically the open halls run RT60 ~2.4s. Load-in via the Howard Street dock takes 12 artics. Power is 3-phase 400A per position. The venue's house Yamaha CL5 and Dante audio network is reliable for redundant capture against our own Sound Devices Scorpio.

2. City View at Metreon

Yerba Buena / SoMa

City View gives a 4.8m ceiling with rooftop terrace access overlooking Yerba Buena Gardens and the SF skyline. We use it for fintech and DTC keynote work where the venue itself is a brand asset. The roll-up glass doors open to the terrace, creating a transitional indoor/outdoor space we shoot at golden hour with the FX9 + 24-105 G PZ at a fixed 35mm full-frame. Acoustically the room is bright (RT60 ~1.0s) and we lay sound blankets behind camera. Load-in via the 4th Street service entry is constrained: freight elevator at 3.2m wide, 24-hour notice required. Power is 3-phase 125A per position. The view-side glass creates polarization challenges at golden hour, managed with a slight CTO key warp.

3. The Pearl

Dogpatch

The Pearl gives an industrial-loft envelope at 8m clear ceiling with daylight from clerestory windows on the south face. We use it for SaaS launch keynotes and DTC product reveals where the aesthetic is dominant. Acoustically the space is challenging (RT60 ~2.2s on concrete and exposed steel) and we always treat the talent area with floor-to-ceiling drape and lay Tube Traps behind camera. Load-in via the 22nd Street dock is straightforward with one dedicated bay. Power is 3-phase 200A per position. The venue is 4km south of FiDi and crew transit during 4–6pm peak adds 25 minutes — we always run a 4am bump-in for show-day capture.

SF coastal fog (May through August) sits low in SoMa most mornings until 11am and makes any bay-front B-roll for KOL exterior work unreliable; we always shoot a controlled studio plate as the primary deliverable and use exterior as cutaway not backbone.

San Francisco's Video Production Market

San Francisco is the global epicentre of technology and venture capital. From the SaaS giants of SoMa to the biotech labs of Mission Bay, the city pulses with innovation that demands professional video storytelling. Product launches at Moscone Center, investor updates from Sand Hill Road boardrooms, and developer conferences draw global audiences — and the brands that win attention here use video as their primary medium. With Silicon Valley on its doorstep, SF is where B2B video content sets the global standard.

Why Professional Video Delivers ROI

Bay Area B2B companies invest in video because the data is unambiguous — video content on LinkedIn delivers 5x the engagement of text posts, and landing pages with embedded video convert 80% better. For SaaS companies, a polished product demo or customer testimonial can accelerate the sales cycle by weeks. We deliver every project in formats optimised for LinkedIn, YouTube, investor decks, and paid media, ensuring your production budget compounds across every channel.

Equipment & Crew

Our San Francisco crews shoot on RED V-Raptor and Sony FX9 cinema cameras with Zeiss Supreme and Sony G Master lenses. Lighting rigs include Aputure 600d and ARRI SkyPanel setups, DJI RS3 Pro stabilisers, Sennheiser wireless audio, and FAA Part 107 certified drone operators flying DJI Inspire 3. Every kit is tailored for SF conditions — from fog-diffused natural light to fast-turnaround tech office setups in SoMa.

Coverage Area

Our base is in San Francisco but we cover the entire Bay Area — Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Mountain View, San Jose, and beyond. Multi-city West Coast shoots spanning LA, Seattle, Portland, and Denver are coordinated from our SF hub, giving you one point of contact, consistent quality, and a single invoice.
